When Ibi Yoo moved to LA in 2011, certain aromas would remind her of hometown of Ilsan, South Korea. She founded The Awesome Candle, based in Highland Park, as part of her quest to re-create her scent memories. It's with the same sentiment that you launched Studio Kō, her online shop of lifestyle brands that represent Korean tradition and its reinterpretation (kō is Korean for "nose"). There, you'll find Hanahzo soaps made from mung beans and rice bran; exclusive custom-made ceramics by LA-based Korean-American artists Eunbi Cho(Eunbilievable) and Seoyen Choi(Yenworks); and Seoul-based Oimu incense holders. "Studio Ko is my way of revealing that what is present is also firmly rooted in our past," Yoo explains. - Karen Palmer
