Working with clay mixed with river sand, Siwol Kim creates ceramic forms that retain the coarse, granular character of their raw materials. His practice reflects on the transformation of rock into sand and soil through weathering, and the reverse process of ceramics, in which those materials are shaped and hardened once again through fire.

With their speckled surfaces and quiet, weighty forms, the works evoke Korean granite, traditional stone pagodas, and fragments of old architectural structures, balancing the presence of natural material with the hand of the maker.
