Earthy brown and warm golden tones recall ripening rice fields and the colors of the autumn harvest.

Inspired by the form of a grain of rice, Youjung Choi’s Warmth Series pairs warm layers of color with hand-carved textures. Each piece carries the quiet sense of care behind the familiar Korean question, “Have you eaten?”

Do NOT use in a dishwasher, microwave, or oven.

Care & Details

Each piece is individually handmade by Youjung Choi. Slight variations in size, shape, color, and texture are a natural part of the handmade process. Small air bubbles, subtle marks, or dark specks may occur during production and are not considered defects. Respectfully, all sales of these pieces are final.

Avoid sudden temperature changes, hot water, and rapid cooling. Do not use in a dishwasher, microwave, or oven.

About the maker

Youjung Choi is a Korean glass artist whose practice centers on glassblowing. Working with light, transparency, color, and texture, she creates vessels and objects designed to become a natural part of everyday life.

Her practice has developed through an ongoing process of experimentation, combining glass with materials and techniques that introduce new surfaces and forms. She has worked with materials such as glass fiber and metal, and more recently has focused on the glass itself—building layers of color with powdered glass, then carving into the finished surface to reveal subtle variations in depth and texture.

For Choi, glass is not only a material that carries light, but one that preserves the presence of the maker’s hand. Her work moves between functional vessel and object, creating pieces meant to be seen, touched, used, and gradually absorbed into everyday life.

About the collection

In Korea, “Have you eaten?(밥 먹었어?)” is often more than a question about food. It is a familiar way of expressing care, carried through the everyday rituals of asking, sharing, and eating together.

In <안부의 온기: Have You Eaten?>, glass artist Youjung Choi gives form to the warmth held within that simple question through rice and vessels. Looking to the seasons and landscapes a grain of rice passes through before reaching the table, Choi brings together organic forms, warm layers of color, and rough, grain-like textures.

Glass, often associated with transparency and smoothness, takes on a different character in her hands. Colors overlap, surfaces are carved away, and light reveals shifting depth across each piece. Through these details, something as familiar as rice is made newly visible.

At its heart, Have You Eaten? is about the small, ordinary ways we care for one another—a bowl of rice, a vessel on the table, and a simple question that carries more than it seems.
