Roses of Majorca
Oil on canvas
25 x 34 cm
The red roses in the garden of the place I stayed in Majorca weren’t just ‘red’—they felt deeper, closer to crimson.
It was the same color as the roses that bloomed each early summer in the front yard of the house I grew up in.
Seeing these roses brought me back to my younger self—a high school student pacing my room at dawn with the radio on, and a middle schooler wondering why the roses had no scent, picking up fallen petals from the yard and pressing them between the pages of a book.
